Greenhouses - Choosing a Wooden Greenhouse
Selection, Options and Installation

Wooden greenhouses are the classic style feature for your garden, they are so much more natural than the aluminium versions, which often look out of place. It's a fact that wooden greenhouses require maintenance, but that equally applies to any greenhouse where the frame discolours or when the panels need cleaning.

How much time you will need to spend maintaining a wooden greenhouse will usually depend on the materials used by the manufacturer, so it is important to study the specifications, choosing the best options to match your budget.

Selecting a Wooden Greenhouse
When making your selection there are four main issues to consider. The type of timber, glass or plastic panels, the method used to secure the glazing panels and finally but very importantly the erection of the greenhouse in the right location and on a suitable base.

Manufacturers of Wooden Greenhouses use a wide selection of timber from expensive hardwoods through to Norway pine. Ideally your looking for a durable hard wearing timber that has been properly treated, which looks attractive, offers long term durability but fits within your budget.

The wooden greenhouses we supply provide a perfect balance, tongue and groove panels with redwood pine glazing bars, all timber used in construction has been tanalised pressure treated. Toughened safety glass is the ideal choice, offering strength and improved light into the greenhouse over plastic, which can easily scratch and discolour. The glass panels slide into grooves in the redwood pine bars and are sealed with quality silicone.

How to build a Greenhouse.
Today greenhouses come in sectional panels that are mounted on a prepared base and either bolted or screwed together. Building a Greenhouse may to some look easy, but unless done correctly the weather will soon find it's way into the greenhouse, damaging not only your precious plants but also the greenhouse itself.

You will find that when shopping for a greenhouse on the internet most suppliers don't offer an installation service. This is important when comparing prices because finding your own contractor can add hundreds of pounds to the overall cost. The greenhouses we offer include FREE INSTALLATION from a specialist team who have installed hundreds of greenhouses throughout the UK.

Wooden Greenhouse ... needs a sunny secure home.
Once you have chosen your greenhouse the next step is deciding the location. Obviously you need to find a space in your garden that benefits from the maximum amount of light but you should also consider access to power and water.

Having picked the spot you can start preparing a base for your new greenhouse again your need to make a choice between a brick, concrete or paving slab base. The critical factors are that the base must be absolutely level, otherwise as soon as it rains puddles will appear and if they are under your new greenhouse then you might be growing pond plants in your new greenhouse.

The prepared base should exactly match the size of the greenhouse base, which will ensure that rainwater doesn't sit on your prepared base. Some contractors dig a narrow trench around the edge of the base and fill it with gravel, which improves drainage. Luckily the greenhouses we offer include a 20mm PVC Damp Barrier that adds further protection.

Selecting a Wooden Greenhouse over the more common aluminium versions won't be a decision you regret - each time you are out in the garden you will be looking at something which looks natural and is pleasing to the eye.
