Erecting Garden Buildings
A guide to constructing Pavillions, Gazebos and Sunshades.

 

This construction guide outlines the steps on How to building Garden Structures, such as Pavillions, Gazebos and Sunshades, from planning through to completion. Follow the guide to create the perfect space to relax in your Garden.

Planning & Preparation ?
Mark out the base of construction with pegs and string, this will give a feel of the overall dimensions, check that the height of the finished building does not obstruct yours or your neighbours view.


Do you need premission to erect a structure of this size?.
Clear the base area of grass, rubble etc.
Check for utilities and any drainage problems.
If structure is near a property, ensure rain run-off slopes away from property.
Put membrane over base area and cover with timber chips or gravel to aid drainage.
If erecting sunshade with no floor, post holes will need to be dug at this stage.

Before you start
Wear suitable safety equipment, sturdy workboots, gloves and goggles if appropriate.

Tools
Assemble all tools required as given in assembly instructions.
Basic items required will be, spirit level, tape measure, string, plumb line, screwdrivers/hammer, shuv-holer (for posts) can be hired.

1. Lay out all the pieces of the project, ensuring all items required are easily identified, also all fittings are correct.
2. Mark out the exact measurements of the base with string & pegs ensuring correct angles, assemble floor and move into place over prepared area.
3. Erect walls in accordance with assembly instructions, ensure all angles are correct. site entranceway in correct position.
4. Secure wall to floor with fixings provided.
5. Roof ; follow assembly directions roof section usually in two parts, may need an extra temporary beam to support roof during assembly, ensure distance between roof edge and walls are equal all round before finally securing.
6. Finally match all battens for roof, walls and floor before nailing them into place.
