Fencing
Selecting the right Fencing for your property

Fencing is something most property owners rarely consider, but the fencing around your property does more than just define the boundary. Fencing comes in a variety of styles and types. The Fencing Panel is the most obvious but Close Board Fencing, Featheredge Fencing and Post and Rail Fencing are all alternatives which you may want to consider before making your decision.

Fountain Timber are one of the UK's largest suppliers of Fencing products, which is why we think it is important to explain all the advantages each style of Fencing offers so you can make the right decision.

Fencing

Fencing - a step by step guide.

Probably the first step involves thinking about your property and its location; we have all seen the wrong fence, often an excellent fence in itself, just inappropriate for where it is.

The fencing and gates are generally the first thing you see, Estate Agents talk about kerb appeal, a quite modest amount spent on the right Fencing can dramatically enhance the value of your property.

On a street location you are probably looking at low fencing at the front of the property and a high fence at the back, a house in the country, a pair of entrance gates at the end of the drive may be your choice.

So many front garden fences are frankly boring, yet there is such a wide choice, a village setting, a Picket Fence with a matching gate gives both an element of security and the cottage look. For a slightly larger front consider the Four Bar Park Fence with a traditional Five Bar Gate.

If a solid fence is required and you feel panels would not look right why not Willow or Hazel Hurdles, Cottage garden at its best.

A more isolated property where security is important, a Feather Edge Fence and a solid timber pair of Gates gives an imposing look and the peace of mind that when the gates are closed you have made the property significantly more secure.

Again on security, statistically most break-ins are at the rear of the property, thieves are reluctant to break-in in full view of the road. In most domestic break-ins they need to carry things away, your aim is to stop them both parking on your driveway and gaining access to the rear of the property.

See "a guide to selecting the most suitable Fencing Panels" this combined with a robust gate will make it far more difficult; thieves will look for an easier property to burgle.

If your property borders onto fields, a picket fence may be the answer. The security of a solid fence but the ability to look through as well, also excellent for keeping the dog in.
