A practical guide to selecting the best style and fit
Timber gates are a key feature of any outdoor space, providing security, improving privacy, and helping to define the boundary between different areas. Choosing the right gate depends on how the space is used, the surrounding landscape, and the overall look of your property.
Garden gates that combine aesthetics and strength
Ideal for paths, courtyards and small entrances
Garden style gates are the most popular choice for domestic properties. They offer a natural look that blends easily with lawns, paths or hedgerows, and are available in a variety of designs to match both traditional and bold, contemporary gardens.
For a clean and simple finish, the Tongue and Grooved Flat Top Gate is a popular option. It’s made from pressure-treated softwood and built with a ledge and brace structure for added strength. The Framed T&G Gate adds more visual weight, with the option of a round or flat top to suit your garden’s style.
If you're after a more decorative option, the Picket Gate with Pointed Top provides a classic look and allows light and air to pass through while still creating a boundary. All garden gates are available in standard sizes, with bespoke measurements available to ensure a perfect fit.

Country gates for rural and residential use
A traditional look with strong, practical design
Country style gates are well suited to open spaces, paddocks and driveways with a rural or rustic character. Their taller height and horizontal bracing give them a distinctive look and make them suitable for both decorative and working use.
The Universal Gate is one of the most versatile options, with a 1.2m height and the flexibility to hang left or right. Its domed bolts and framed ends offer a strong, balanced appearance.
For a larger entrance, the Entrance Gate features a hockey-stick style hanging post and is made to order from pressure-treated softwood. For a more refined finish, the Hardwood Entrance Gate offers the same timeless design, crafted in high-quality hardwood for a more distinctive look.

Driveway gates designed for security and style
Made-to-measure for larger openings
Driveway gates, naturally, need to be both strong and secure, while still enhancing the appearance of your property. Our driveway gate range has recently been improved to offer greater strength and long-term durability, while keeping the traditional styling our customers come to expect.
Each model – including the Aberdeen, Perth, and Arbroath gates – is built from treated softwood or selected hardwoods and features a sturdy framework to ensure lasting performance. All our driveway gates are made to order to suit the exact width and height of your entrance.

Finishing touches for a complete installation
Posts, fittings and fixings made to last
A gate is only as strong as the hardware that supports it. We supply a full range of gate posts, hinges, latches and fastenings to ensure your installation is secure and reliable.
All fittings are selected for outdoor use and designed to pair with our gate range. We also offer advice on how to choose the correct post size and fixings depending on the size and weight of your gate.
If you’re unsure which accessories or fittings are best for your setup, our experienced team is always happy to help.
Preasure-treament and waterpoofing
While all our softwood gates are pressure treated for superior durability and protection against insects and rot, this does not perform as a waterproofing agent. To add this protection and to personalise them to a colour or finish that suits you, we suggest both Treatex Classic Colours and Thorndown Wood Paint as excellent options.
If you require a clear finish, we suggest Treatex Sheer Oil or, alternatively, you can simply use Cedar Oil. Other quality products are also available, but ensure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions, and always do a trial test on the small area before applying it to the rest of the gate.
