Why choose Millboard decking?

One of Millboard’s biggest strengths is its realistic timber effect. Each board is hand coloured, giving the surface a natural variation that helps recreate the character, tone and texture of real wood – when you want a high-quality finish without the ongoing care associated with traditional timber decking.

Millboard is made from polyurethane resin, sustainable minerals and fibres, finished with a resilient Lastane® coating. The composition gives the boards the warmth and appearance of timber while helping to resist many common problems associated with wood, including rotting, warping, splitting, and twisting.

For a classic wood-grain appearance, the Millboard Enhanced Grain Board is designed to recreate the texture, look and feel of real timber, and is available in a choice of shades, with a dual-tone, hand coloured surface that helps resist fading, sun damage, scratches, stains and algae growth.

Millboard Lasta-Grip Board

Designed for safer outdoor spaces

Reliable anti-slip performance, even when wet

Decking needs to feel secure underfoot, particularly given the unpredictable nature of British weather. Millboard decking has excellent anti-slip credentials and is designed to perform well even in wet conditions. Its Lastane® surface is non-porous and has the highest anti-slip rating, making it a practical option for family gardens, public spaces and commercial settings.

The anti-slip performance is especially useful around areas that may be exposed to frequent rain, shade or moisture. Garden paths, steps, raised seating areas, and access routes can all benefit from a surface that provides reliable grip without feeling harsh underfoot.

For areas where optimal slip resistance is the priority, the Millboard Lasta-Grip Board is designed specifically for high-slip-risk spaces. It offers a textured surface with excellent anti-slip properties, without the rough feel often associated with gritted strip boards.

No sanding, staining or regular treatment required

Traditional timber decking usually needs regular cleaning, treatment, staining or oiling to keep it looking its best. Millboard decking is designed to reduce ongoing maintenance. Because the boards are non-porous, they help resist moss build-up, stains and algae growth, making them much easier to look after over time.

In most cases, rain helps wash away surface algae. For spills and marks, a mild detergent and a cloth are usually sufficient. Solvents, strong chemicals and abrasive cleaners should be avoided, as they may damage the Millboard surface. Pressure washing is normally unnecessary, which helps protect the finish and reduces the amount of work needed to keep the deck looking clean.

This makes Millboard a good option for busy households, holiday properties, hospitality settings and commercial outdoor spaces where long-term appearance and low maintenance are important considerations.

Family-friendly and pet-friendly decking

Splinter-free comfort underfoot

Because Millboard is not traditional timber, it does not splinter in the same way wooden boards can. This makes it the considered choice for gardens used by children and pets, where people may be walking barefoot in the warmer months or using the deck as an everyday extension of the home.

The combination of a splinter-free surface, strong anti-slip performance and resistance to algae gives Millboard a reassuring balance of comfort, safety and durability. It is also lightweight compared with many traditional alternatives, which can help with handling and installation.

Built to last in demanding outdoor environments

Outdoor decking needs to withstand changing weather, moisture, sunlight, foot traffic, and everyday use. Millboard is designed to be durable and long-lasting, with resistance to fungal decay, mildew decay, splitting and twisting. It is also made in the UK, helping to reduce transport-related carbon impact compared with products manufactured much further away.

Millboard decking comes with a 25-year residential limited warranty and a 5-year commercial warranty, giving peace of mind when planning a long-term garden or commercial project. Full warranty details can be found here.

For projects where a more rustic, timeworn character is preferred, the Millboard Weathered Oak Board is moulded from 100-year-old reclaimed oak timber. It creates the look of aged timber from the day it is installed, while still offering the performance benefits of Millboard’s Lastane surface.

A complete finish for steps, edges and levels

Matching details for a professional result

A well-planned deck depends on the details. Edges, steps, fascias, and level changes dictate how the space functions and define the final aesthetic. Millboard provides a suite of matching finishing products designed to ensure a clean, high-profile look across every element of your project

The Millboard Bullnosed Board gives decks a stylish edge without the need for separate edging. It works particularly well for steps, borders and visible deck edges where a rounded profile can create a softer, more finished look.

For curved or sweeping spaces, Millboard Flexible Square Edging and Millboard Flexible Bullnose Edging are designed to follow the deck's contours. Both edging strips can bend to a maximum 1.2m radius, making them useful for more creative layouts and garden designs with curved borders.

Where decks have multiple levels, exposed joists, raised edges or steps,  Millboard Fascia Boards help create a neat, coordinated finish. They are available to match every colour in the Millboard range, allowing the deck structure and visible faces to blend cleanly with the deck boards.

Easy to install with standard tools

Millboard decking is designed to be straightforward to fit. It cuts and screws like wood, with no special tools required. The boards use easy top fixings for faster installation, and pre-drilling is not required in many typical fixing situations. Lost head fixings can be used with the Lastane finish to help create a clean surface appearance.

As with any decking project, correct planning and installation are essential. The subframe, ventilation, drainage, fixing method and finishing details all affect the deck’s long-term performance. For the best results, Millboard should be installed in line with the manufacturer’s guidance, particularly for raised decks, steps, commercial spaces or unusual layouts.

At Fountain Timber, we stock Millboard boards alongside compatible finishing products and fixing components to complete your project properly. Our team can help you choose the right products for your design, setting and intended use.
